European Countries Begin to Ease Travel Restrictions

As various countries in Europe begin to lift the lockdown rules, preparations are on the way to make local and international travels come back. Some European countries have begun to ease travel restrictions in preparation for summer vacation. Countries like Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Greece etc. have begun to open shops selling essential items, restaurants, bars, food and drink stores and shops selling non-essential items. The social distancing rules and the wearing of face masks still apply in these countries.  

Different rules apply concerning the ease of travel restriction in European countries. People planning to travel to any of the European countries need to be aware of what rules apply and what they need to do before or during their travels. We have compiled the list of countries and the travel rules that apply as of the time of writing this article.

Austria	• Allows cross-border travel with nearby countries who have a low number of Coronavirus cases • From June 15, borders will be open to the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Liechtenstein, Slovakia and Switzerland • Airports in Vienna, Innsbruck and Salzburg are partially operational • Travellers must present a certificate that indicates they are corona virus-free or go through a 14-day self-isolation • It is compulsory that travellers wear face masks in public and in shops
Belgium	• Plans to make travel available again to international tourists in the middle of June • Allows travel with the UK for essential travels • It is compulsory that travellers wear face masks in public, in shops and in museumsPlans to reopen other tourist attractions between June and August • As of now, travellers will go through a 14-day self-isolation
Bulgaria	• Allows travel with the UK for essential travels only • Allows some hotels, bars, restaurants and markets to open • Allows access to mountains and national parks

Croatia	• Allows cross-border travels. However, foreigner nationals must have properties or close family in Croatia • No definite date of when tourism will reopen to others  • Allows parks, shops, hotels, bars, restaurants and public transports to open
Cyprus	• Plans to reopen airports and seaports gradually from June to July • Some beaches and museums will reopen from June • Parks, squares, historical sites, marinas and other open space are subject to a group of 10 people. This will be eased from June
Czech Republic	• Plans to reopen borders with Austria and Germany from the middle of JuneAllows domestic travels • Allows parks, museums, shops, hotels, bars, restaurants and public transports to open • Allows a gathering of up to 100 people
Denmark	• Opens Copenhagen and Billund airports for only worthy purpose travels, like using the airport in transit to your home • Allows parks, museums, shops, hotels, bars, restaurants and public transports to open • Plans to reopen theatres, cinemas and sports from June 8

Estonia Latvia Lithuania	• Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania open borders to allow travel between them • Travellers arriving outside the zone will go through a 14-day self-isolation
Finland	• Allows flight operation with the UKAllows parks, museums, shops, bars, restaurants, cultural institutions and public transports to open • Plans to allow a gathering of up to 50 people starting from June
France	• Plans to reopen borders with Germany and Switzerland from mid-JuneAllows shops and public transports to open • Beaches and parks are to reopen in June • Travellers must present a certificate that indicates they are corona virus-free or go through a 14-day self-isolation
Germany	• Plans to reopen border with Austria, France and Switzerland from mid-June • Allows shops, hotels and public transports to open • Lockdown measures vary according to states

Luxembourg	• Opens borders with Germany Allows parks, shops, bars, restaurants and public transports to open • It is compulsory that travellers wear face masks in public and in shops
Malta	• Plans to reopen border from JuneTravellers are to go through a 14-day self-isolation • Restaurants, parks, bars, hotels, museums and galleries will reopen in June • It is compulsory that travellers wear face masks in public and in shops
Netherlands	• Allows travel between Schengen areas • Some shops are in operation • Restaurants, parks, bars, hotels, museums and galleries will reopen towards the end of June • It is compulsory that travellers wear face masks in public and in shops • Plans to allow a gathering of up to 100 people starting from September
Norway	• Allows a gathering of up to 50 people • Some shops, hotels and restaurants are open • Other restaurants, parks, bars, hotels, museums and galleries will reopen in June

Romania	• Only open for essential travels as of now • Allows parks, shops, bars, restaurants and public transports to open • It is compulsory that travellers wear face masks in public and in shops
Slovakia	• Allows transit with proof of onward travel • Allows some parks, shops, bars, restaurants and public transports to open • It is compulsory that travellers wear face masks in public and in shops
Slovenia	• Plans to reopen border with Hungary in June • Travellers arriving from outside EU regions are to go through a 7-day self-isolation • Allows parks, shops, bars, restaurants and public transports to open • It is compulsory that travellers wear face masks in public and in shops
Spain	• Allows travel for only essential reasons for nowAs of now, travellers are to go through a 14-day self-isolation • Allows some parks, museums, shops, hotels, bars, restaurants and public transports to open • Plans to open international travels to tourists from July
Sweden	• Allows travel from EU areas and the UK as of now • Allows parks, museums, shops, hotels, bars, restaurants and public transports to open • Gathering should not exceed 50 as of now

Switzerland	• Plans to open border for Austria, France and Germany • Allows parks, shops, hotels, bars, restaurants and public transports to open • Plans to reopen theatres, museums, cinemas, swimming pools, ski resorts, spas and mountain services from June •Travellers are to wear face masks in places where social distancing can’t be effected
Turkey	• Plans to reopen borders to international tourists from mid-June • Allows parks, shops, bars, restaurants and public transports to open • It is compulsory that travellers wear face masks in public and in shops

Beaches are beginning to reopen for sun lovers. International tourism will begin to gradually take shapes as European countries begin to ease travel restrictions amid the global pandemic.
